MinnPost explores the importance and complexities of rural broadband

While not a new topic, people are talking about rural broadband with an increased level of urgency these days. As MinnPost writer Tim Gihring captures, broadband advocates are “at the cool kids’ table now.”
In his recent article, Gihring covers current conversations happening in the state about rural broadband. He highlights the importance of broadband to rural communities, and gives examples of the types of collaboration needed to bring broadband border to border.
In the article, the Foundation’s Public Policy and Engagement Director Bernadine Joselyn touches on why Blandin Foundation invests in broadband.
“We didn’t want a new issue every month, we wanted to make systemic change,” Joselyn said. “When you ask rural leaders about their priorities, it’s not broadband. It’s jobs, attracting good employers, schools, crime, and drugs — but these are all things that can be addresses with broadband.”
