Top 3 Vibrant Communities | August 14 – 18
August 18, 2017 by Blandin Foundation
1. Blue Earth: “The earth so rich the city grows.” This well-known community motto will be working double time as community leaders double down on marketing the area for further development. A $10,000 grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation for community collaboration has blossomed into a multi-partner effort to grow the community.
“We’ve got a great community and a great opportunity to grow the entire Blue Earth area into something even greater than it already is.”
2. Chisholm: Sometimes it doesn’t take much for a community to breathe a breath of new life. The project could be so small it fits inside a pocket. That’s what the leaders of the Chisholm Downtown Revitalization Group thought as they envisioned a new, vibrant space to replace a empty lot between two buildings. With support from many volunteers and nonprofits, Chisholm’s “pocket park” opened up last week with much community fanfare.
“I think we’re all incredibly excited, and were overwhelmed by the support of the community, area nonprofits and the city.”
3. Owatonna: Nearly two decades ago, a cohort of 20 some leaders from Owatonna graduated from the Blandin Community Leadership Program. Since then, Owatonna has kept the flame of local leadership burning. With a rejuvenated purpose, the tails of this group have reorganized into the Owatonna Community Leadership Academy — which will engage, encourage and empower future leadership in and for the Owatonna community. They are now accepting applications for their 2017-2018 program.
“Owatonna is a wonderful community with generous volunteers, however we are also a community in need of strong local leaders to step up to the challenges that we face each day.”
