Top 3 Vibrant Communities | June 5 – 9

1. Pine River: The City of Pine River has partnered with the Cass County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) to make small business loans to area businesses.
“Growth is coming,” said Mike Paulus, executive director for CCEDC. “Cass County is primed for an economic explosion. The funds for the city of Pine River will ensure that the impending growth is capitalized on by businesses in the area in the most effective manner possible.”
2. Bemidji: Volunteers planted more than 1,500 plants yesterday at North Country Park in Bemidji as part of the Birds, Bees and Butterflies program. The City has committed to a number of actions to help increase the Monarch butterfly population.
“We have an amazing group of people who have been working on this for a couple months…They’re all willing to come out and plant all day long in the hot sun. It says a lot to how dedicated people are,” said Nicole Deziel, leader of Thursday’s event.
3. Hibbing: Having outgrown their old facility, Minnesota Diversified Industries broke ground on a new building in Hibbing this week. MDI is a manufacturing organization that provides meaningful job opportunities for people with disabilities.
“To say this is one of the happiest days of my life is an understatement, because it certainly is,” said board member Phil Bakken.
“Thanks for believing in Hibbing,” said Mayor Rick Cannata. “We believe in you, and also want to thank the employees who work here because you are what makes MDI.”
