Top 3 Vibrant Communities | October 3 – 7
October 7, 2016 by Blandin Foundation
1)Willmar: for the community’s swift support to build a playground designed by kids, for kids.
“It is such a testament to the community,” said Sara Carlson, director of the Willmar Area Community Foundation. “It is a very caring and compassionate place and we want to see a vibrant community.”
2) Red Lake Nation: for naming their community’s priorities and going after the necessary resources to spur change. With a $13 million USDA grant, Red Lake will build a new chemical dependency treatment center, new fire halls and expand the reservation’s existing dialysis center.
“None of it happens without leadership,” USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer said. “You all are the ones that make the difference.”
2) St. James, Milan and Worthington: for using art to engage the community in areas such as affordable housing, downtown redevelopment, public safety, health and wellness, and arts and cultural development.
