Blandin Foundation launches Legacy and Leadership Awards in honor of 75th anniversary
January 13, 2016 by Blandin Foundation
In honor of Blandin Foundation’s 75th anniversary, as well as the 125th anniversary of Grand Rapids and Itasca County, area community members are invited to nominate individuals or groups who have displayed an act of community leadership for the Foundation’s Legacy and Leadership Awards.
Nationally known for its work to train Minnesota’s rural community leaders, the Foundation notes that community leadership is different from other kinds of leadership. Community leaders help others see what is or isn’t happening in their community and encourages community members to think about what could be done to make a difference. They build key community relationships and pull together the resources needed to get the job done.
Examples of local community leadership are featured in a new documentary sponsored by Blandin Foundation and the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation. Legacy and Leadership is online at www.blandinfoundation.org and will air on ICTV. Stories featured include the community work behind The Bash, the local farmer’s market, MyrnaLee and Mobility Mania, Nashwauk community projects, Itasca Community College inclusion efforts and Grand Rapids Arts.
To nominate a group or individual, click here or call Blandin Foundation offices (218-326-0523) with the following information: your name and contact information, the nominee’s name and contact information (phone or email) and a description of the act of community leadership.
Nominations will be accepted until May 15, 2016 and resulting stories shared throughout the year.
