Fighting for an American Countryside: MPR releases e-book that highlights rural resilience in Minnesota

“We can’t loose the people who care about rural America.”
This sentiment reverberates throughout the recently released Fighting for an American Countryside video, a product of Minnesota Public Radio Ground Level blog. In this 13-minute documentary, rural Minnesotans discuss the challenges facing their small communities and the opportunities they have to overcome them.
Places like Milan, Minnesota are welcoming a new wave of immigrants who are revitalizing the local economy today, while helping to sustain the long-term vitality of the community. Other communities, like Montevideo, Minnesota, are turning to the arts to create a unique identity that will resonate with current residents – thereby increasing their pride in their hometown.
Through the passionate voices of rural Minnesotans, this video shows that rural communities all over the state are fighting to keep their piece of the American Countryside. As interviewee Patrick Moore of Montevideo states, “It takes passion. It takes commitment. It takes that I’m-not-giving-up attitude” to keep our rural communities thriving.
