Deer River Students Harmonize on the Information Highway

What does Gloria Estefan, pianist Michael Feinstein, singer/songwriter James Taylor and the Deer River High School Choir have in common? The answer: a passion for music and the technology to bring them together.
On May 22, 2013, the 3rd annual Bridging the Gap Concert kicked off with a performance by Emerson Middle School in Los Angeles, California. The nationwide event, hosted by Cisco Systems and the nonprofit Urban Entertainment Institute, connected students to national recording artists and to other schools across the country through the use of TelePresence video technology.
The technology utilized at Deer River High School was secured in part through a grant from the Blandin Foundation.
“Technology is truly changing how our students are interacting with the world,” said Matt Grose, Superintendent for Deer River Public Schools “Having a strong broadband infrastructure and making the investments in our children’s future, not our past, continues to make great things possible and help us fulfill our district’s vision.”
